Dak Prescott’s future with the Dallas Cowboys is not a controversial topic, regardless of the NFL media and certain reporters trying to push a narrative. Prescott is still one of the top 10 quarterbacks in the league, arguably top five on his best days, and 12-15 range on his worst days, which have been rare in his career.
Cowboys could possibly draft a new quaterback
However, it wouldn’t be surprising if the Cowboys drafted a quarterback this year, especially since Cooper Rush is a free agent, and the team has a good track record of developing QBs. Jerry Jones hinted at this possibility at the Senior Bowl. One potential candidate is Hendon Hooker, a dual-threat quarterback from Tennessee who met extensively with the Cowboys during the pre-draft process, along with other teams such as the Giants, Saints, Panthers, and Raiders.
While there is no consensus on Hooker’s draft stock, he is a polished passer who can protect the football and has sneaky scrambling ability, much like Prescott. He was projected as a Heisman Trophy finalist in 2022 before suffering a torn ACL in November. Despite the injury, Hendon Hooker is still considered a top QB prospect in the 2022 class, with some experts ranking him as high as QB3.
Hendon Hooker has flaws but is ready to play
Of course, Hendon Hooker has his flaws, including his age (25) and the need to adjust from playing in a limited offense to the NFL. However, if the Cowboys want a ready-made backup for Prescott, Hendon Hooker would fit the bill. He is expected to be healthy and ready for training camp, and with his athleticism and passing prowess, he has the potential to play at a high level in the league.
