Former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Cole Beasley has spent the last three years with the Buffalo Bills. Before signing with Buffalo, he had quite a tumultuous exit from Dallas. He wasn’t shy about criticizing the franchise and expressing his dissatisfaction with the organization as a whole.
Cole Beasley might be eyeing a return to Dallas
Now, he may be eyeing a return to America’s Team. The Bills released Beasley back in March. Buffalo did initially express interest in keeping him. However, between salary cap issues and Beasley’s off-the-field outspokenness regarding the league’s COVID-19 protocols, it felt that a release was inevitable.
Although he is 33 years old, his targets have gone up in the last few seasons. His 164 receptions over the last two years place him 10th in the league. He also had a career-high 112 targets last season. In three years in Buffalo, the wide receiver collected 2,438 yards and 11 touchdowns.
It’s possible that the below tweet was just a ploy to get his name back in the swirl of free agency rumors, but Beasley said he’d be willing to play for the ‘Boys again if it meant reuniting with Dak Prescott. The 33-year-old spent his first seven years with Dallas, the final two of which were Prescott’s first two seasons as the Cowboys QB.
No Cowboys player has played more games with Prescott than Beasley (47). In two years together, Beasley had 176 receptions, 1,819 yards, and 12 receiving touchdowns with the young quarterback.
Cole Beasley tweeted that he’d return to Cowboys to play with Dak Prescott, but reports say the Giants have interest as well
While Beasley was tweeting about a potential Prescott reunion, NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo was reporting that the wide receiver was drawing “significant interest” from multiple organizations despite his off-the-field antics.
Garafolo specifically mentioned that the New York Giants could be the next home for Beasley. Why? Because Brian Daboll and Joe Schoen just moved over to the Giants and both have a connection with Beasley.
However, it is important to note the three main reasons that Garafolo said the free agent hasn’t signed anywhere yet. The first is that he wants to find the “right fit.” The second is that he is not interested in signing a veteran minimum contract. The last is that he wants to play for a contender. The third and final reason makes it seem like, despite interest, Beasley likely has no desire to play for the Giants if he’s trying to win another Super Bowl before he retires.
So, is a Cowboys reunion possible? As we very well know, the Joneses don’t like to be criticized, so this would highly depend on them being able to put Beasley’s past words behind them. It would also require the front office to open their wallets more than they want to in order to gain wide receiver depth.
The only starter from the WR trio from last year who will play Week 1 for the Cowboys is CeeDee Lamb. Michael Gallup will miss an unknown amount of games. James Washington has a few injury concerns. Jalen Tolbert is talented, but a rookie, and that leaves just Simi Fehoko and Noah Brown. Are these names enough or will the Joneses make a familiar addition before the start of 2022?
