The league has been dropping several sneak peeks up until the full unveiling. We found out who the Cowboys’ home and road opponents would be back in January, but we haven’t known which weeks they’d be playing each team. Not anymore! On Wednesday morning, the NFL revealed that the Dallas Cowboys would be traveling to Lambeau Field in Week 10 to take on the Green Bay Packers on November 13.
This is likely one of the most anticipated games on the Cowboys’ schedule. Not only do these two teams play for the same conference (implying playoff implications), but there has been some serious history between the franchises. The Ice Bowl, Jared Cook’s game-winning sideline catch, and the ever-famous question/moment of “did Dez catch it?” Both teams have some of the most famous fan bases in the world, yet neither has won a Lombardi Trophy in several years.
First time Mike McCarthy returns to Lambeau Field
The 2022 matchup at Lambeau Field brings even more intensity as it marks the first time Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy will return to Green Bay where he coached the Packers for 13 seasons. A team he helped win a Super Bowl in 2010. There will be a lot of pressure on McCarthy to get a win against his former team that fired him four years ago, and there is also probably a huge desire within Aaron Rodgers to beat his former coach.
Although the current Cowboys head coach had a rough end to his tenure in Wisconsin, he ended his Packers career with a 125-77-2 record, bringing a ton of success to the franchise. McCarthy led the team to eight playoff berths in a row from 2009 to 2016 and six NFC North titles. It will be interesting to see how fans and players react to the coach’s return.
Every game is important, but the date of November 13 will certainly be circled in red on McCarthy’s calendar. It’s three days after the head coach’s birthday. The date will also mark four years and two days since the 53-year-old’s last win as the head coach of the Packers.
The Cowboys and Mike McCarthy are set to make their return to Lambeau Field in Week 10 of the 2022 season
These two teams have met a total of 37 times with the Packers leading the all-time record 20-17. The first time the two met was ironically also on November 13, but it was back in 1960 and resulted in a 41-7 Green Bay victory. The latest matchup between the two teams was in October of 2019, and the Pack won that contest 34-24. The good news is the last time the team’s played in Lambeau (2016), the Cowboys ran away with a 30-16 victory.
The matchup will be very interesting this year. Rodgers will be at the helm of a much different team. Green Bay lost a plethora of offensive and defensive names in free agency. Most notably, Rodgers’ favorite target, Davante Adams, will be gone after he signed a massive offseason contract with the Raiders. Dak Prescott will also be without his former WR1, Amari Cooper. In mid-November, the weather will likely play a major factor on the Cowboys who aren’t used to dealing with a frozen tundra.
